The prime minister who was born in Bergen
Erna Solberg was born in Bergen and led Norway’s government for eight years.
Bergen features in more than Norway’s medieval history. Erna Solberg, one of the best-known figures in the country’s recent politics, was born here on 24 February 1961.
She served as prime minister from 16 October 2013 to 14 October 2021. For those who arrived in Norway during those years, her face was familiar in debates about the economy, public life and, towards the end of her term, the pandemic.
It is one of those simple connections that changes how you look at a city: Bergen’s colourful façades also belong to the hometown of someone who later held Norway’s highest government office.
